Some Examples of Footjoints

The examples at the top and third from top are eight-keyed footjoints with Rudall & Rose style C and C# key touches (ends of key levers) and hand-engraved sterling silver ferrules. The second from top is an eight-keyed footjoint with Rudall & Rose style C and C# key touches in gold plate. Fourth is an eight-keyed footjoint with German style C and C# key touches, again in gold plate. Last is a D footjoint with D# key in gold plate.

The C and D footjoints are interchangeable which means that you don't have to buy two flutes, just an extra footjoint. There is no doubt that the same flute sounds different depending on whether it has a C or D footjoint. The D gives a brighter sound than the more mellow C flute.
